What are copyright, plagiarism, and fair use?

Definition: the exclusive legal right, given to an originator or an assignee to print, publish, perform, film, or record literacy, artistic, or musical material, and to authorize others to do the same.
Kid-friendly definition: a rule that gives the person who owns something that has been written, a picture, music, or other pieces of work to decide what happens to it.

Definition: The practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own.
Kid-friendly definition - copying another person’s ideas, words, or writing and pretending that they are your work.
-Fair use-
Definition: the doctrine that brief excerpts of copyright material may, under certain circumstances, be quoted verbatim for purposes such as criticism, news reporting, teaching, and research, without the need for permission from or payment to the copyright holder.
Kid-friendly definition- An idea that it should be okay for a person to copy small parts of something someone else created without breaking the copyright law.
